#3 West Division
v.San Antonio Rampage
31-27-3-6, 69 pts
#5 West Division
March 13th at 7:00 PM
Cedar Park Center, Cedar Park, TX

As usual, we have a shortened gameday preview for the 2nd game of a back-to-back set. The brevity of today's post is influenced by my lack of sleep as well.

San Antonio is hitting its stride at just the right time. With 13 games remaining on their schedule, they know they have a shot at the playoffs if they can start playing playoff hockey today. San Antonio knows this, but does Texas? Neither Texas nor any other team in the West has punched their ticket to the big dance yet. Even mighty Chicago is only 11 points from #4 Milwaukee. If San Antonio can start winning each and every night, including three remaining against Texas, then they have a shot at the playoffs.

The counter to this argument is that Texas had better not get complacent. Yes, Texas is in an excellent position to make the playoffs now. But the West is competitive and the Stars have only one remaining game outside of their division (at Grand Rapids). Even the #7 Houston Aeros are playing .500 hockey on the season. The West may well be the best division in the AHL and I think we may not know who goes to the playoffs and who goes golfing until the final buzzer sounds on April 11th.

Sadly, I will not be attending the game tonight myself so there will not be a postgame report for the first time since I started the blog. I have been invited with a group of my co-workers to present at the dorkbot conference for South by Southwest (SXSW). I am part of a group called "Waterloo Labs" for my day job. We recently modified an Oldsmobile Delta Eighty-Eight to be controlled by an iPhone and made a video about it. The video received over 400,000 views across the globe on YouTube and was featured on CNN, the BBC and various local broadcasts. In case you're curious, here's the video:
