Stars inch closer to playoffs with 5-4 SO win over Griffins

The second shootout win for the Texas Stars in as many night put them just 2 points away from their first playoff berth in franchise history. Now, with a win tomorrow or a Peoria loss at Houston, Texas will be set for a spot in the Calder Cup Playoffs in their first season in Austin.

Texas opened the scoring on the power play on a redirected pass by Andrew Hutchinson, his eighth of the year. Only 23 seconds later, Warren Peters scored his 3rd goal of the weekend with a tip on Ray Sawada's centering pass.

The Griffins answered with two more goals of their own. Mattias Ritola and Jan Mursak beat Matt Climie to tie the game at 2. Before the first was up though, Mathieu Beaudoin would score his 18th of the year on another tipped shot originally from the stick of Trevor Ludwig.

Grand Rapids tied it up early in the second on a goal by Cory Emmerton. Mathieu Beaudoin staked the Stars to a 4-3 lead at the halfway point of the game with his 19th of the year and second of the night. Texas never trailed in the game. Jamie Tardif evened things up at 4 only 20 seconds later and the score would stay at four through the end of 60.
