AHL, Polk County take big next steps for franchise sale

The Texas Stars are two big steps closer to having their future locked down in the AHL. First, the AHL's Board of Governors today officially approved the sale of the Iowa Chops franchise to Hicks Cedar Park, LLC. Full story from the AHL is here.

Secondly, word out of Des Moines is that Polk County officials and the current owners of the franchise, Schlegel Sports, have reached an agreement to settle their debts. Schelgel Sports will owe the county $1.1 million and will pay an additional $200,000 to local business to whom they owe money, including hotels, radio and TV stations.

If all goes as planned, the county will ask to dismiss the lawsuit that was filed to prevent the franchise from leaving Iowa. The deadline for this is May 12th. The Des Moines Register story is here.
