Stars Need Shootout to Finish Barons, 2-1

Texas and Oklahoma City played a much more evenly matched game than their last content this evening. Instead of a blowout, the Stars needed a shootout to put a ribbon on this one.

Texas opened the scoring in match with the goal ultimately credited to Travis Morin. A point shot from Dan Spang was originally credited to Dan Spang on the goal but eventually given to Travis Morin for the tip in front of the net at 10:21. Despite trailing on shots 14-6, Texas led after one.

The Barons tied it up in the second with a power play goal of their own. With Texas's goal scorer, Travis Morin, in the box, Hartikainen collected a rebound in the high slot off Bachman for the tying goal.

Texas played through a scoreless third period, which including a penalty shot by Colton Sceviour. Sceviour went for his signature move, the high backhand, but was stopped by Jeff Deslauriers. Deslauriers catches right, which is a rarity in hockey, and that may have contributed to the stop. More defensive hockey followed as Texas went to OT tied at 1 with shots at 32 a side.

The Stars killed a power play in the OT period but couldn't get the game ender in the even strength time. The game would go to a shootout.

The first goal in the skills competition came from Oklahoma's Hartikainen in the third round. Vincour matched it with a weaving bobbing goal of his own to the top right corner. Gagnon finished the thing off in the 5th round to grab the extra point for Texas. The Stars were 1/5 on the PP this evening while holding OKC to 1/4.
