Depleted Stars Fall in Houston 4-1

This was a tough game in the midst of a tough week for the entire Dallas Stars system. With injuries aplenty in Dallas, five players were out of the lineup in Philadelphia or en route tonight. Coach Gulutzan iced 8 defenseman and 10 forwards, having Jordie Benn and Matt Stephenson play at forward with the PTO signee from Idaho, Kael Mouillierat.

The Stars and Aeros skated to a scoreless first period with shots advantage going to Houston 10-7. The goal scoring got started in the 2nd period with Houston's PP getting going. Warren Peters started the play behind the net, passing to Jon DiSalvatore in front of the net. The captain backhanded the puck to Patrick O'Sullivan, who scored the first goal of the night. The power play goal was the only tally by either team in the second period.

The power play was again deadly for the Stars in the 3rd period. O'Sullivan got his second of the night again on the power play. The forward scored his 5th goal in 8 games from the right wing circle to make it 2-0. Under 40 seconds later, another play from behind the net beat Brent Krahn. Matt Kassian fed it out from for Palmer, who made it 3-0 with 9:57 left in the game.

Luke Gazdic broke up the shutout bid by Anton Khudobin, collecting his own rebound in the crease to score his 6th of the year. Tomas Vincour collected the only assist on the power play goal at the 15:06 mark of the third period. With Krahn on the bench for the extra skater, Maxim Noreau picked up the empty netter to end things. The Stars are back in action tomorrow night against Oklahoma City in Cedar Park.
