Three Goal Third Powers 4-1 Win Over Heat

The Stars won their first road game since January 18th thanks to a three goal third period in Abbotsford this afternoon. Colton Sceviour picked up the game winner on the power play in the third period. Luke Gazdic potted two in the third as well and Wathier tipped one home in the second to open the scoring. Tyler Beskorowany played a brilliant game, stopping 30 of 31 shots against and being named #1 star of the night. Texas now returns home to open their longest home stretch of the season, seven total games over the next two weeks.

Texas and Abbotsford played a quiet first period with both teams hitting iron once but coming no closer than that. Matt Fraser hit the crossbar, and Greg Nemisz banked one off the post. Abbotsford led the shot count 9-6 after twenty.

As with Friday's game, power play goals were a big part of tonight's game. Texas went first with Brad Lukowich slapping one from the blue line, getting a tip from Francis Wathier in front, to score the first goal of the night on the power play. Texas went to the locker room after the second up by one.

Abbotsford got their power play goal just 34 seconds into the third with Lukowich in the box for cross-checking. Clay Wilson tipped home a Kolanos "shot-pass" to beat Beskorowany for the first and only time this afternoon.

The game winner came off the stick of Colton Sceviour, who sent a wicked wrister past Leland Irving from the circles, streaking down the ice on the power play. Glennie and Benn assisted on the play.

Although Texas didn't need the goals, ultimately, it had to feel good for Luke Gazdic to pot two in the third. His seventh and eighth of the year broke a scoreless streak going back to December 3rd. His first was thanks to a paunchy rebound off an initial shot from Angelo Esposito. His second came on an individual effort, an unassisted tally that was the icing on the cake for Texas today.
