Texas Stars Assign Tousignant, Austin Smith to Idaho

It's not quite officially released yet, but the AHL transaction wire lists and the Texas Stars confirm the transfers of forwards Mathieu Tousignant and Austin Smith to the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads this morning. Both forwards have only factored into a single game for the Stars this season. Each spent time of the fourth line, but apparently didn't make enough of an impression to demand a repeat performance.

As previously documented in this space, Austin Smith has been struggling in the one main department that was his calling card in the NCAA: goal scoring. Without a professional tally, Smith has to be feeling a little out of sorts. While heading to the ECHL is obviously not the plan that Smith envisioned for his first pro season, he will gain confidence in the pro game there and hopefully come back to Texas in due time with his scoring ways in tow.

As to Tousignant, he really seemed to be having quite a camp. He was agitating as usual and involved in the play as well. However, after one game in San Antonio, which most Stars fans were unable to see, he has not returned to the lineup. Tousignant spent time in Boise in 2009-10, scoring six goals and eleven assists in twenty games. He had one goal and two assists in thirteen playoff games as well.

    1. Why would King come back? There's no room for him on the ice here.

    2. What what I hear, to get the office going. Texas has none to speak of. This would be a move to upgrade the roster.

    3. I would replace Gazdic with King at this point, even if only to try it. Gazdic has not done anything this season.

    4. I don't think anyone wants Gazdic gone but it's hard for the Stars to justify him as a skater given the other options. I wonder if the Stars could reasign him to another team and get another player in return somewhat like the Sawada deal last season.

  3. Think that would be a bad move, considering he's dominating at the ECHL level.

  4. Thoughts on Eakin? I haven't been impressed.

    1. Really, I have seen every game and he is one of the better players every game.

    2. Maybe I have him confused with someone else. There was someone hogging the puck trying to score when there were better opportunities if he'd pass to someone else.

    3. To go along with my comment from the other post today, I think some players are trying to put the whole team on their back - Eakin included. There are times when he does things to appear to be "puck-hogging", but he is doing this because he is aware he is likely one of the best players on the team at this time.

He is definitely a half step or more ahead of other current Texas Stars, but Im not sure how he will do when the lockout is over in the NHL. I understand why they got rid of Ribiero (locker room cancer - a la Lukowich) but it seems Dallas might have been able to do a little better.

Its too bad Sceviour got hurt in the first pre-season game. He is dynamic at this level and would probably play well with Eakin also.

    4. Eakin is without a doubt the best and most well rounded player on the Texas Stars. I don't like the Vincour/Eakin/Whoever else line because Eakin and Vincour are different type of players. Eakin is High energy and Vincour just depends on his skill level, both are better players than most on the ice and I think spreading those skills out would be best. The line is obviously a good line but I think it would be best for the team to split them up.

  5. Lukowich is one of the reasons Glennie is currently having issues. He was A RAT in the locker room.
