Dallas Calls Sneep and Oleksiak

Are you an ECHL defenseman? If so, keep your phone on and close by because Texas Stars GM Scott White might be calling you up today to fill the roster holes on his injury and callup riddled squad. Injuries to Aaron Rome and Philip Larsen on Saturday against the Sharks necessitated the callup of two defenseman from Texas, Jamie Oleksiak and Carl Sneep.

Texas is already hurting on the blue line, and these recalls make it worse. Stars captain Max Fortunus, rookie Patrick Nemeth and vet Tyler Sloan are injured. Barring no assignments or recoveries from injury, the Stars will ice a blue line squad on Tuesday that has zero players that started the season in the AHL.

The Stars are very familiar with adversity though. They are in the middle of a five game winning streak and had a similar bit of adversity (the NHL lockout ending) in the middle of their franchise-record six game streak. As long as Willie Desjardins can keep working these ECHL callups in to AHL ready players, this team will be fine. It's very good news all around though that the Stars have a five point cushion in the West.

  1. We'll manage. We have all year. Desjardins seems to have some magic pixie dust or something to keep the team strong and cohesive despite the call-ups and injuries. I guess the test will be in OKC on Wednesday.

  2. Sean Curry (Alaska), Kane LaFranchise (Alaska), Charlie Cook (Las Vegas), Mike Little (Stockton), Tony DeHart (Stockton). Plenty of capable short-term fill-ins available.

Cook and Curry are both older guys with AHL experience.
