Hamilton Bulldogs Maul Texas Stars 5-1

Defensive coverage was a sore spot for the Texas Stars tonight as they left their starting tender out to dry on multiple occasions to drop a 5-1 decision in Hamilton tonight. Nick Tarnasky, the Bulldogs' leading penalty minute man, had two goals on the night including a power play tally. Cristopher Nilstorp was pulled after the fourth goal and replaced by Allen York, who allowed one of his own. Three of the Bulldogs' goals were directly attributable to defensive turnovers or blown coverage by the Texas D corps.

As the game got out of hand, Texas had a total of five fights, a rather uncharacteristic night in the pugilism department. Wrenn, Labrie, Mueller McKenzie and Ritchie were the fighters for Texas.

The Bulldogs got on the board early with Colton Sceviour in the box. Tarnasky picked up a garbage goal down in the blue paint, which was assisted by Christian Thomas and Martin St. Pierre. The scoring was quiet for the rest of the first period as the Bulldogs powered toward the second period scoring frenzy. Three goals in the middle frame did most of the damage for Hamilton on the night.

Steve Quailer picked up his first AHL goal at the start of the second. It was a pretty tally that saw him kick the puck from skate to stick and pick a corner against Nilstorp. MacAulay assisted on that tally and then got one of his one a few minutes later. Untouched on the back door, he finished off a pass from Louis Leblanc for his first of the season.

Nick Tarnasky got his second of the night on a tip play off the shot from Jarred Tinordi. That set the score at 4-0 and chased Cristopher Nilstorp, who stopped 21 of 25 shots against.

Colton Sceviour put a bit of life into the Stars with a solid finish on a Travis Morin pass to breakup the shutout bid. Allen York got the second assist. Less than a minute later, York was hung out to dry by a Texas turnover, leading to a goal and a re-establishment of the four goal lead for Hamilton.

The Stars are next in action on Friday at home against San Antonio.
