Five Texas Goals Give Stars Fifth Straight Win

Someday, the Stars' luck will change against San Antonio, but it was not this day. The Stars picked up their fifth straight win, moving to 3-0-0-1 on the season against the Rampage. Texas put itself up 3-0 halfway through the game but let San Antonio back in it, finding themselves only leading by a goal to start the third period.

With the Rampage pushing hard to get the equalizer, taking chances they might not have otherwise, the Stars put up the 4th and 5th of the night to set the final score. Curtis McKenzie found the net twice and Chris Mueller and Travis Morin each had two points. Maxime Fortunus continued his point streak, now at five games, with a power play assist in the first.

Texas got started early, staking themselves to the 1-0 score with a nice breakout pass by Chris Mueller. Mueller's pass found Scott Glennie all alone as he went forehand to backhand to slip one five-hole on Michael Houser. Chris Mueller got one of his own thanks to a nice pass from Fortunus on the power play a few minutes later. After twenty, the Stars were up 2-0.

The 3-0 lead came off the stick of rookie Curtis McKenzie, assisted by two other rookies: Brendan Ranford and Jeff May. McKenzie picked up the rebound goal after the initial shot by Ranford was rebuffed. Jeff May was responsible for the keep at the line to keep the play going.

Former Texas Star Greg Rallo got the Rampage on the scoresheet with a goal coming just after a penalty to Texas had expired.

To open the third period, Garrett Wilson epitomized the statement that no shot is a bad shot with his blast from the left point just five second into the period. It found the net, catching everyone off guard and sending the game to a 3-2 score.

The Rampage piled on 21 shots in all in the final frame as they attempted to even the score. It was Texas getting the next goal though. Travis Morin continued his wizardry this season with an incredible pass to Mike Hedden on the backdoor with less than three minutes left in the period. Curtis McKenzie would add the empty-netter to set the final at 5-2.

San Antonio will visit the Cedar Park Center on Wednesday.

  1. Stephen, We were surprised the other night to see Nemeth out of action. Have you heard anything about his injury?

    1. I haven't heard anything yet. He has had concussion issues in the past. As long as it isn't that...
