Texas Allows Four-Goal Third Period, Loses 4-1 to Toronto

Up 1-0 after forty, Texas allowed three goals in the final period to fall 4-1 to the Toronto Marlies at the Air Canada Centre this afternoon. Two of those goals were empty netters, but it was still not the result Texas was hoping for in Ontario. The Stars' only goal came in the second period off the stick of Brett Ritchie.

After a sleepy first period, the first scoring action came in the second. The Stars' 'third' line generated some chaos in front of the Marlies' net. Mike Hedden and Justin Dowling had assists on the eventual goal by Brett Ritchie, his twelfth of the season. Texas would take that lead to the break after going 0-for-1 on the power play in the frame.

The Stars looked to kill a power play of their own in the third as Scott Glennie was called for tripping at 5:55. Josh Leivo netted his eleventh of the year on that man-advantage. The puck dribbled in behind Nilstorp. Greg McKegg and Spencer Abbott picked up assists on the goal. Three minutes later, Toronto would extend that lead with Jerry D'Amigo collecting his twelfth of the year. Abbott got his second assist of the night as he sprang D'Amigo on a semi-breakaway behind the Texas defense. The puck slid in five-hole off the wrister from the left winger.

Leivo polished things off with an empty net goal in the final two minutes. Texas seemed to have solid possession in the Marlies' zone but Toronto managed to collect the puck and send it up the ice to Josh Leivo. Leivo gained center and found the empty net for the 3-1 final. Jerry D'Amigo added his second of the night as well with another empty netter in the final few seconds.

Texas now takes a few days off before playing the Checkers on Friday at home.
