Texas Stars Fooled in Charlotte 6-3

Matej Stransky scored to continue his hot streak with a goal, but the Texas Stars fell to the Charlotte Checkers by a 6-3 final. The game was remarkable in that Jack Campbell and John Muse played against each other. The two started the season as the prohibitive one and two goalies for the Texas Stars.

The teams were briefly tied at two in the second but otherwise Charlotte held the lead the whole way.

Here's the release:
Brock McGinn scored a pair of goals and former Star John Muse turned in 26 saves as the Texas Stars came up short in a 6-3 road loss to the Charlotte Checkers on Friday night at Bojangles Coliseum in front of 6,724 in attendance.

Matej Stranksy scored in the third to pick up his sixth goal in the last six games for the Stars, and rookie Mike McMurtry tallied his first career point in his Texas debut with an assist. Jack Campbell suffered the loss stopping 21 of 25 shots in net.

The Stars (37-24-7-3) and Checkers (35-27-3-4) wrap up their two-game set on Saturday at 6 p.m. CST.

Brock McGinn opened up the scoring at 8:38 of the first after driving the net through the right circle and beating Campbell to give Charlotte a 1-0 lead. Less than five minutes later, rookie Andrew Poturalski snuck in a one-time shot from the slot to extend the Checkers’ lead.

The Stars pushed back in period two to knot the score at 2-2. Derek Hulak put Texas on the board at 4:52 from the right circle for his 16th of the year. After jumping on their first power play of the game later in the period, Curtis McKenzie tipped home his 20th of the season from Esa Lindell’s point shot at 13:04, but the Checkers regained the advantage from Justin Shugg three minutes later.

Sergei Tolchinsky made it a 4-2 Checkers lead just 26 seconds into the third period, and from there Texas could not find a way to push back. Things stayed quiet offensively until the final three minutes of play when Charlotte added two empty-net goals, sandwiched around Matej Stransky’s 20th of the year at 17:25.

McMurtry recorded the assist on Stransky’s goal.

Texas finished 1-for-3 on the power play. Charlotte went 0-for-1.
