While Texas has most of the week off, Denis Gurianov has been hard at work in the World Juniors. When he isn't studying with Coach Laxdal for his driver's license exam, he must be working hard on his goal celebrations. Gurianov had plenty of reason to celebrate yesterday afternoon.

The Texas Stars rookie was looking to help send Russia to the gold medal game in the World Juniors. He certainly did his part. The winger potted two goals in regulation and two more in the eventual shootout. The USA eventually triumphed in the seventh round to advance to the gold medal game. Russia will play Sweden for bronze today at 2:30 PM Central.

Gurianov spoke with Russian media after the game. The following quote comes through Google Translate, so take the general message and not the actual words.

"To anyone no complaints. They gave everything, just out of luck. What is the best match for me? We lost. Now analyze the game, we can say that already forgotten the semi-finals, we must prepare for the match for the third place. There are no victories without defeat . There is a feeling that missed from the hands of victory. it's a shame, it is difficult to pick up the words."

Experience like the above in a big game is invaluable for young players. Further, performing well in a big game, as Gurianov did, is even better news for the Dallas Stars. While the Russia squad is surely disappointed not to be playing in the gold medal game, we can all rest assured knowing Denis Gurianov is a name now familiar across the hockey world.
