Texas leads 2-1
May 14th at 6:00 PM
Van Andel Arena, Grand Rapids, MI
In some ways, it's best to forget about last night's game. There are surely nuggets from Game 3 that can be teachable moments for Coach Willie Desjardins' crew.
Bottom line is that nothing is out of place quite yet. The Stars won all of their home games so far. Grand Rapids has done the same. It's not a series until someone loses a home game.
It was definitely not good to see the Stars line of Mueller, Jeffrey, and Glennie go minus-10 in the contest. It was not good to see Jack Campbell get pulled after allowing four on sixteen shots. The defense was porous at times. Gaunce and Oleksiak were a combined minus-4.
Texas' third period was good. With the game pretty much decided, the Stars outshot the Griffins by a 4:1 margin. They earned two goals and showed a lot of fight with Campbell on the bench for the extra attacker. Dowling, McKenzie, Ranford, Hedden and Stransky were each plus-1.
Nilstorp should start tonight after Texas put Campbell back into the net for the third period last night.
Texas has to think that getting just one of three in Michigan is big, allowing them to come home with two chances to close it out.
