It appears the Dallas Stars will need Curtis McKenzie this week. The left winger is on his way to Columbus, where the Dallas Stars will play tonight at 6 PM Central against the Blue Jackets. This comes as news breaks that Valeri Nichushkin is not on the trip with Dallas. That combination of facts now makes the recall make sense.

Here's the release:
The Texas Stars, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars, announced today forward Curtis McKenzie has been recalled to Dallas.

McKenzie, 23, posted a goal in Texas' season-opening win against Iowa on Saturday. In 2013-14, he won the Dudley "Red" Garrett Memorial Award, given to the AHL's most outstanding rookie, and was named to the AHL All-Rookie Team leading all AHL rookies with 65 points (27 goals, 38 assists) in 75 games played. He added 14 points (three goals, 11 assists) in 21 postseason contests helping Texas win their first Calder Cup.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound native of Golden, British Columbia was selected by Dallas in the sixth round (159th overall) of the 2009 NHL Draft.
