Texas Stars Drop Another in 3-on-3 OT

After needing overtime last night, the Stars would take it to the 3-on-3 segment once again but would fall ultimately with less than a minute remaining again. While it wasn't quite the same as last night's goal with 0.8 seconds remaining, Kevin Porter's game winner came on a breakaway thanks to a homerun pass with just seconds remaining before the shootout.

Jussi Rynnas got the start and stopped 33 of 35 shots against. Mike Dalhuisen scored his first AHL goal in the contest.

A rather unremarkable first period for both sides led to a scoreless mark on the big board after twenty minutes. Grand Rapids outshot Texas 9-6 in the frame.

The offensively dangerous Anthony Mantha collected his first of what will surely be many professional goals on a 2-on-0 chance with Teemu Pulkkinen. Andy Miele got the play started and sent the two in against an empty Texas defensive set for the first goal of the night. The Stars were badly outshot in the middle stanza, their 13-4 mark in the frame combined for a 22-10 deficit after two.

In the third, the Stars would respond with Mike Dalhuisen's first goal of the year and first in the AHL. The defensive defenseman blasted the puck from the blue line. William Wrenn and Gemel Smith assisted.

Texas plays again tomorrow in Rockford to end the weekend set.

Tonight's lines:
Hulak-Morin-Ranford
Rallo-Dowling-Glennie
Stransky-Faksa-Henderson
Troock-Peters-Smith

Gaunce-Fortunus

Rynnas

Injuries, scratches, and notes:
McKenzie, Klingberg (call up)

Texas lost Radek Faksa in the first period when he blocked a shot off his left knee. He came back briefly in the second but did not return thereafter.

Tonight's attendance was 8,009.

  1. We lost a few guys along the way too Stephen. As you reported Fadska took the shot to the knee. He tried to come back but could not. Henderson was in and out of the locker room and finally out late 2nd or early 3rd. He looked more sick than injured to me. Rallo was injured coming in and amazingly tougher it out the whole game until finally leaving in overtime. All in all a great effort by a banged up and depleted team. Heading back to Austin now. 1. Yea, the broadcast didn't mention Henderson. That's tough.

    2. By the way Ritchie did play Friday night only missed Saturday. I think the bug got some of them like Meech for both.
