Amid Injuries, Texas Adds ECHL Rookie Forward Eric Faille on PTO

Rookies seemed to do pretty well for the Stars last night, and they'll be adding another on a professional tryout today. According to the Fort Wayne News-Sentinel, Texas has signed rookie forward Eric Faille to a PTO. Faille is an older rookie. He played four years in juniors and followed that with four years in college. He has been playing in the ECHL with Fort Wayne, the top team in the ECHL, and has 16-16=32 in 32 games played.

The Stars have been playing defenseman Mike Dalhuisen at forward in the past two games. Last night, Radek Faksa and Curtis McKenzie joined Justin Dowling on the scratch list. Dowling is definitely injured, and Mark Stepneski reported that Radek Faksa was walking around the American Airlines Center last night in a sling. Texas also lost Branden Troock last night when he went into the boards and had to be helped off the ice.

  1. If you follow the posted link to the Fort Wayne News Sentinel and read the story about Eric Faille, then continue to the end of the article and read about the death of Jim Burton on this past Monday, January 6. If you were an Ice Bats fan back in the early days, you may remember him as a player on the inaugural Ice Bats team in '96-'97, and then as the Head Coach for most of the following season.

Also, if you haven't already read Jason Cohen's book, Zamboni Rodeo, then pick up a copy. It follows the Ice Bats for the entire '97-'98 season, the year that Jim Burton was the Head Coach.

It's usually nice to read about former Ice Bats, but not for this reason.

    1. Hey Bob,
Absolutely. I tweeted about Burton this afternoon. I loved Zamboni Rodeo and have a copy signed and inscribed by the author, Jason Cohen.

    2. Did you see I'm quoted in Zamboni Rodeo?

I knew Jim Burton to the extent you know a player and Coach at that level. I know Jason pretty well, though. Burton lost his shine with the Austin fans when the Ice Bats ownership purchased a franchise in Arkansas and moved Burton as head Coach and the better players off the Ice Bats to Arkansas. Sad to see him die, he was a good guy and someone his players loved. Burton is one of those guys when I reflect over the history of the Ice Bats I wonder why he wasn't more successful, in his case as a Head Coach.

    3. I actually did, Carl. I didn't read the book until after I started the site, so you had already started commenting here and on Facebook at that time. You're Austin hockey royalty!
