Texas closed out its season series with the Iowa Wild with a win, but it wasn't as convincing as it should have been against the worst team in the league. The Stars put themselves up 2-0 early but found themselves tied at three just over halfway through the second. The Stars didn't let that last for long, scoring 18 seconds later to regain the lead.
Jack Campbell stopped 33 of 37 in his 12th straight decision for the Texas Stars. It was Texas' fourth straight win.
Brett Ritchie opened the scoring for Texas with a power play goal on the rebound of a Brendan Ranford shot. Matt Mangene got the second assist as he continues his play on the power play since rejoining the regular lineup with the injury to Derek Meech.
Kevin Henderson tallied a goal in tight off a scrum at the net for the 2-0 lead. The Stars got into penalty trouble though and found themselves down by two men. Jonathon Blum found twine to cut the lead to 2-1 for Texas.
Gemel Smith scored off a turnover to start the second period to set the score at 3-1. The Stars capitulated to allow the next two tallies, Stu Bickel and Stephane Veilleux. Both goals took advantage of the bottom six for Texas.
Just a few seconds after Iowa made it 3-3, Greg Rallo scored to make it 4-3 and regain the lead. It was Rallo's 25th of the season, one short of his AHL personal best of 26, set with the 2010-11 Texas Stars.
Devin Shore went high on John Curry in the third period to make it 5-3, an insurance goal that the Stars would need. Jared Knight scored on a backhanded tip just 90 second later to keep the lead at just one for Texas.
Travis Morin would drain one into the empty net despite a 6-on-4 man advantage for Iowa. Texas now sits in fifth place in the West, passing OKC, which lost to San Antonio tonight. The Stars will return home to face Hamilton with a chance to clinch a playoff spot.
