Streaking Stars Post Fourth Straight W, Defeat Bakersfield 3-1

Texas got some depth scoring tonight to put them over the Bakersfield Condors 3-1. Utility man Matt Mangene, center Austin Fyten, and newcomer Ethan Werek had the three tallies for the Stars. Point streaks for Matej Stransky and Julius Honka both ended in the game, but the Stars extended their team winning streak to four. Jason Dickinson had an assist in his second game back to add to his game-winning goal from his first.

Maxime Lagace got the win with a 34 save effort.

Here's the release:
The Texas Stars offense scored a trio of goals and Maxime Lagace did the rest with 34 saves in net to lock up a 3-1 road win over the Bakersfield Condors on Friday night at Rabobank Arena in front of 3,556 fans in attendance.

It was the fourth straight win for the Stars this season, and the seventh straight win over the Condors franchise dating back to Feb. 20, 2015, when the Oklahoma City Barons topped the Stars in overtime by a 3-2 final before relocating to California.

The Stars (6-3-1-0) close out their three-game road trip Saturday as they take on the Condors (3-4-0-0) for the second time in as many days at 8:00 p.m. CST.

Texas forward Ethan Werek opened up scoring during a delayed penalty call with a shot from the slot just over two minutes into the game to make it a 1-0 Stars lead. Mike McMurtry and Mattias Backman recorded the assists on the goal. With 1:25 remaining in the period, Austin Fyten muscled home the first shorthanded goal of the season for Texas off a second-chance play in front of the net.

Bakersfield forward Kris Newbury put the Condors on the board late in period two from the slot to make it a 2-1 score favoring Texas, but Matt Mangene’s second of the season midway through the third period pulled Texas away for good. Jason Dickinson tallied his second point in as many games with the helper on Mangene’s rebound goal in front.

Laurent Brossoit suffered the loss in net with 36 saves. Both teams went scoreless on the power play. Bakersfield was 0-for-4. Texas went 0-for-3.
