How Close Was Texas to Owning the AHL's All-Time Longest Losing Streak?

There are definitely some ways you'd prefer not to make your way into the history books. Longest losing streak in the league is certainly one of them. Texas made it back to the win column on Saturday to avoid that ignominious fate, but they still put themselves in the top ten since the introduction of the shootout with their 12-game winless skid.

To be clear, the official record books denote a losing streak as not having any points at all while a winless streak is any string of games that doesn't include an outright win. Therefore, Texas finished its streak with a 10-game losing streak and a 12-game winless streak.

As far as losing streaks since 2005-6, Texas made it to a tie for sixth, which is where many teams broke their skid.

On the winless side of things, the Stars are in a tie for seventh with many others.

Historically, before the league began the shootout, the longest winless streak was was 23 games, by Pittsburgh in 1962-63 (0-22-1), and the longest losing streak was 18 games by Baltimore in 1987-88. Pittsburgh finished the year 20-48-4 that year while Baltimore was 13-58-9. If you'd believe it, Pittsburgh's record was an improvement year over year from the 10-58-2 mark they had posted in their first year as a franchise.
