Coming off a successful weekend pair of games in which they picked up four points, the Texas Stars now head West to begin this crucible of a four-game stretch against the Colorado Eagles. The trip will be only one of two times that Texas travels West of the Lone Star state this season--the other the Arizona trip coming this weekend.
After two huge victories last weekend, the Stars will need three points headed into this week's games to keep pace in the Central division. It's going to be a tough task as the Eagles are in second place in the Pacific division and play at a .648 clip. The teams have played once this season, a 5-2 Eagles win in Cedar Park back in November.
They will play against only one former Star in Erik Condra. Sheldon Dries, the dynamic forward who helped Texas immensely during their Calder Cup run two years ago, has been called up to the injury-depleted Avalanche.
Stars winger Jason Robertson has been on a tear as of late and now leads the team with 25 goals, just outside the top ten in league goal scoring. Goaltender Jake Oettinger has also been playing his best hockey of late and seems to be the horse that the team will go with down the stretch.
When asked about his level of concern with an increased workload for the young tender, head coach Neil Graham was unfazed. "We're not we're not worried about the workload," he said. "[Oettinger] played a lot of games last year, some back to back. It's a time of year where everyone has to expect a higher workload, and now he's done real nice job adjusting."
Look for the Stars to continue to deploy the 11 Forward/7 Defenseman look that they had success with last weekend as Joel Hanley continues to work back into the lineup after return from injury. Another interesting note is Texas's ATO signing of defenseman Jerad Rosburg from Michigan State. It will be intriguing to see whether he gets any ice time given the importance of these games.
The puck drops at 8:05 PM CDT.
