For the second time in as many games, Texas blew a third period lead and fell to the Iowa Wild, tonight by a 5-4 score. Despite the loss, it was a big night for rookies as Thomas Harley had a pair of goals and Mavrik Bourque had three assists, his first three professional points.
Harley got things started with a bomb from the blue line that eluded Hunter Jones. The second assist was Bourque's first pro point. He sent it up the boards to Ben Gleason, who backhand passed it across to Harley at the left point. Iowa evened the score to finish the first at one each.
Texas struck first in the second with a deft play from Riley Damiani and Bourque together handing Anthony Louis his 11th goal of the year.
Iowa came hard with a push to make it 3-2. WIll Bitten and Brandon Duhaime scored 64 seconds apart and, given the challenges Texas has faced this year that could have been their undoing. However, the Stars buckled down to find some goals and push back ahead.
The captain, Cole Schneider, had the putback goal off the shot from Jerad Rosburg from the right point and then two minutes later Harley stepped up to score from the blue line again as Jake Slaker screened Jones at the net. Bourque had the lone assist on Harley's second goal.
Iowa had a strong comeback in the third period, their second of the week. In just three minutes of clock time, Texas went from up one to down one and ultimately were defeated. The tying goal was the lone power play tally for either team on the night.
Texas finishes the season tomorrow in Iowa.
