The Matt Murray era is firmly underway in Cedar Park after Dallas traded Anton Khudobin to the Chicago Blackhawks last night. The main get for Dallas was Max Domi but goalie Dylan Wells, who has spent most of the season with Rockford, was also sent to Texas.
Khudobin had struggled recently in the AHL despite an overall solid win-loss record. His recent starts were not what the team needed and he hadn't seen the ice since February 3rd. He had a save percentage over 0.900, the standard mark of a serviceable goaltender, just once in his last seven games dating back to Christmas.
Now, fresh off his first NHL win last night, the Texas Stars have given the net to Matt Murray, effectively. For tonight, Remi Poirier is likely to start so Murray doesn't have the back-to-back, with Scheel potentially backing up this evening. Murray, whose last AHL start was his third shutout of the year, now gets the chance to fully own the net as Texas cruises to the postseason with their second-highest points pace in team history.
