Scott Wedgewood to Start Friday on Conditioning Stint; Texas Adds ATO Berard

Two bits of notable news today as the Stars still sit one point away from a playoff berth.

First, the Stars already know their starting goaltender for Friday's game against San Jose: Scott Wedgewood. The Dallas backup has been recovering from an injury for the last month and is ready for game action. He is coming down on a conditioning assignment to get back up to game speed and will start Friday for Texas.

As a reminder, conditioning assignments are temporary and can last no more than two weeks. Most barely last three days, it seems. Players nowadays are in such good shape that 'conditioning' doesn't mean what it used to.

Second, the Stars added another amateur tryout signee in Ben Berard, a forward out of Cornell. Berard played three years for the Big Red, totaling 68 points in 87 games. Similar to Keaton Mastrodonato, I wouldn't expect to see him this weekend as he ramps up on team systems and acclimates to the professional game for the first time.
