Just before puck drop tonight, Artem Grushnikov was a late scratch. As first reported by 100 Degree Hockey, he was the player sent to Calgary as part of the return for acquiring defenseman Chris Tanev from the Flames.
Re Tanev trade, #txstars had Artem Grushnikov in the lineup but swapped for Ben Zloty just before the puck went down. Take from that what you will. pic.twitter.com/R4yP5bGX5q

Grushnikov has not exactly lit the place on fire in the AHL this season. He is plus-3 with 1-4-5 in 44 games played. Thanks to injuries, he has been elevated in the lineup to an everyday player instead of rotating scratches with other rookies, as was the original plan. He has been fine in that role overall.
Grushnikov will likely head to the Calgary Wranglers. Texas and the Wranglers do not play each other this regular season.
Texas will be in a bind on defense this weekend. Gavin White is out with an injury sustained in Grand Rapids, and there are no healthy scratches after that. Until Lian Bichsel returns, the Stars will likely turn to ECHL Idaho for a PTO.
