Dallas Stars Camp, Day 2: Cameron Hughes Impresses in Scrimmage, PTO Players Fight for Texas Contracts
More Texas Stars made a mark today in Dallas Stars training camp with the first preseason game on the horizon tomorrow night. Dallas will announce their roster for the game against the Blues tomorrow morning with the non-game group playing a mid-morning scrimmage.
- Jamie Benn/Mavrik Bourque/Logan Stankoven - This line produced a goal for the second straight scrimmage. The chemistry is already evident. Benn will help stabilize the line and ensure opposing teams do not take “liberties” with the two rookies. Further proof that Bourque’s time with the Texas Stars is over.
- Cameron Hughes scores another goal. For the second straight day, he impressed with his skill. It’s too early to draw any real conclusions, but it appears he could be a valuable piece to the Texas Stars lineup.
- Matthew Seminoff/Franceso Arcuri/Justin Ertel - Good production from this line during the scrimmage. Seminoff was an active two-way forward. He stole the puck in the offensive zone and created a good scoring opportunity. During a later shift, Arcuri received a long outlet pass at center ice and beat the goaltender in a one-on-one situation.
- Joseph Henneberry - The 19 year old from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League scored a nice goal driving to the net. He has a big frame at 6’2 and 193 pounds and showed some skill. He was on the same line as Jack Becker (another big bodied player) and Gabriel Frasca (of the OHL Erie Otters). Henneberry is a name to keep an eye on down the road.
- Oskar Bäck continued to share a line with Sam Steel and Colin Blackwell. Good indicator that the Stars think he could be NHL ready.
- Remi Poirier appeared to be more sharp during the scrimmage. He had several “point blank” saves.
- Defensive pairings combinations of note:
- Lian Bichsel/Christian Kyrou
- Gavin White/Luke Krys
- Kyle Capobianco/Luke Krys
- Tristan Bertucci/Alex Petrovic
- Kyle Looft/Gavin White
