Coming off an exciting 3-2 overtime win on Friday night, the Texas Stars looked to continue their win streak, but the Colorado Eagles had other plans as they handed the Stars a 6-1 loss at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.

Colorado would go on an early scoring streak in the first period, with Eagles’ Chase Bradley scoring the game-winning goal midway through the first.

“We did some things that really took the game out of our hands”, said head coach Neil Graham. “They came out well, but we also did things that fueled them, and that didn’t do ourselves any favors.”

The Eagles wasted no time in getting on the board first. Alone in the left circle, Eagles forward Oskar Olausson got the puck past Texas goalie Magnus Hellberg.

Texas wasted no time in answering the call though as Kyle McDonald would get the puck past Eagles’ Trent Miner with assists by Chase Wheatcroft and Alex Petrovic. The remainder of the period would be all Eagles as they continued with their scoring run. With just under two minutes left in the first, Texas would make a goalie change, sending in Remi Poirier for his 18th appearance this season. “We love what [Hellberg] has done for our group here, and even I could tell it wasn’t his night” said Graham. “I wanted to at least get him 20 minutes, because he’s been out for a while.”

The period would end with Colorado leading the Stars 5-1.

At the beginning of the second period, Colorado would continue to add to their already impressive lead with a goal by Chris Wagner, his second of the game. The moments of intensity from both teams would remain as both Texas and Colorado would continue to trade shots on goal. The fast pace of the period saw both Texas and Colorado only seeing two minutes of penalty time, both at the end of the period, but the Stars would go into the locker room after 40 minutes of play with a sizable deficit to make up in the final 20.

Coming back to the ice for the final frame of the evening, Colorado would continue to press Texas and tempers would continue to flare as both teams would be called for penalties.  The remainder of the game would see Texas unable to overcome the scoring deficit, taking a 6-1 loss.

The Texas Stars will be back at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park on Tuesday, February 25 to take on the Grand Rapids Griffins.
