When I got to the press box last night and scanned the lineup sheet, I noticed three new names. One was Logan Terness, an undrafted ATO goalie out of Ohio State whose signed I announced on X yesterday. The other two were arguably the Dallas Stars' top forward and defensive prospect: Emil Hemming and Tristan Bertucci.
Hemming and Bertucci join Texas after their Barrie Colts were dropped in the OHL Eastern Conference Finals by Oshawa by a 4-0 margin. The games were barnburners by the box score with tons of points by Beckett Sennecke, the Ducks' 2024 first rounder.
Oshawa took both road games from Barrie by a combined 10-2 score. Game 3 saw a double OT 7-6 victory for the Generals and then Oshawa completed the sweep with an 8-4 win on May 1. None of those were empty netters, by the way.
It's anyone's guess if Hemming or Bertucci play in the playoffs. Bertucci has one AHL game to his name and acquitted himself well in it. Given the down-the-stretch usage of Tommy Bergsland in last night's game, would Bertucci have been an equally good option? It also must be noted that college players have additional years of maturity to their game along with playing a more structured style, generally, at university.
