Through a Rube Goldbergian series of RSS feeds and code-enabled spreadsheets (all done before GenAI made such things simpler), 100 Degree Hockey constantly monitors where former Texas Stars are playing now and regularly publishes them on the site and on Twitter/X.
It's become such a habit that we've even gotten some lighthearted ribbing for it with Defending Big D contributor Mark Zimmerman calling out life's certainties as, "death, taxes and 100 Degree Hockey updating us on the obscure destinations of former Texas Stars."
With all that being said, it is fascinating to see who goes where beyond the North American game. I've been incredibly interested to see Canadians and Americans alike finding their niches in Germany, Switzerland, Finland, Sweden, Italy or even the UK. Mark Derlago made a nice career for himself in the Asia League in the early 2010s even. Matt Climie played a season in Australia.
You can find this spreadsheet in the header under "Former Stars" always or by clicking here right now.
As of this writing on Monday afternoon, 64 former Texas Stars who played somewhere last season were without contracts for 2025-26. That will no doubt change today as free agency begins.
