We Got Rid of Ads

If you've been a reader for a long enough time, I'm sure you've closed or scrolled past hundreds or thousands of ads on this site. And note that I said you've scrolled past them. You've not clicked on them. I know; I don't either.

As part of the first step in a larger redesign of the site, I am going to do the simple thing first and remove ads from the site.

Ads interrupt your experience on the site. I can't control with that much fidelity what you do or don't see, so it also might be completely experience-ruining to see some ads. Also, Google has started injecting ads that do all sorts of unpleasant things like expanding when you don't expect them to or the classic of making them very hard to close.

In the end, the site is not here to turn a profit. This is, always has been and always will be a passion project. I put ads on the site originally to defray the costs of AHLTV, domain registration, gas and other expenses associated with covering the team. At this point though, we trigger a very small ad payout once every other year. So the negative experience for you, the reader and entire reason the site exists, is not worth the extra few dollars in the annual budget.

If you're a business owner looking to do sponsored posts on the site, like the Player of the Week features we did with Lone Star Grille back in 2016 or our guest post on how equipment sponsorships work in the AHL from ProStockHockey, please reach out. Any sponsored posts would be about the hockey first, to be clear.

Otherwise, enjoy a newly cleaner site and know that we're working on something bigger. If you somehow still see ads on the site, be sure to do a hard refresh of the page. If that doesn't work, let me know.

Thank you, as always, for reading.
