Dallas Stars GM Jim Nill held his season-opening press availability this morning. As usual, he began the presser with an overview of injuries in the organization. Unfortunately for Texas, every injury affects a player expected in the AHL this year.
- D Luke Krys, who was a mainstay for Texas last year as a rookie with 61 games in the regular season, is out until January or February with an Achilles injury that he sustained in summer training.
- F Kyle McDonald, starting his third year and looking for a bounce back to his rookie form, sustained a knee injury in the playoffs last year and had ACL surgery. He'll be out until November.
- F Cameron Hughes, who was a key contributor to the deep playoff run with 19 points in 14 games, is out until mid-October with a core injury that required surgery.
- F Chase Wheatcroft, starting his third year, has a wrist injury and will be out until mid-October.
There is lots of opportunity for Texas' up and comers with an entire forward line out to start the season. From the 'mid-October' date, Hughes and Wheatcroft could be options for opening night, but they might also end up skipping that first weekend depending on timelines. What it means for now is that the Stars will not see any of these players in NHL preseason games.
