The Texas Stars finished out their Midwest road trip with a 5-4 defeat in Rosemont, Illinois. The contest featured 2-0 and 3-2 leads for the visiting Stars, but it was the Chicago Wolves with the final goal in the dying minutes of the third period.
The dying minutes, or even seconds, were a key feature for Wolves' goals in the game. Chicago scored twice in the final two minutes of the opening period, including a goal with less than a second remaining, and again with 51 seconds remaining in the second. Those goals cumulatively kept the score tied at each intermission and denied Texas any sort of momentum as they played their third road game in four nights.
Cameron Hughes got the scoring started in the first on a redirect of Matthew Seminoff's initial shot. Jack Becker jumped in next with a back door tap-in off the pass from linemate Justin Ertel. It was 2-0 Texas.
Texas got into penalty trouble though as the period wound down. Justin Robidas beat Poirier on the power play and then Noel Gunler completed an odd-man rush to make it 2-2 with less than a second left in the frame.
Harrison Scott regained the Texas lead but it was short-lived. Bradly Nadeau made the Stars pay for a missed clear with the 3-3 goal.
Chicago took their first lead of the night in the third, but the Stars battled back with another goal from Arttu Hyry, who has come on strong since his return from injury. Tied at four, it was Chicago taking the game into their own hands. Noah Philp scored the game winner with four minutes left in the third and the Stars were unable to even the score once again.
