Dallas Sends Gavin White North, Acquiring Defenseman Jeremie Poirier in Trade

Dallas announced earlier this afternoon that defenseman Gavin White is heading to Calgary in exchange for defenseman Jeremie Poirier.

For both, this seems like a change of scenery trade. Poirier has eclipsed 40 points in a full AHL season twice in Calgary but is on pace for barely double digits this season. He also has a gaudy minus-18 rating on a struggling Wranglers club that is in second-to-last place in the Pacific Division.

White has similarly struggled this year but does not have the track record of as much prior success as Poirier. He's on pace for just 11 points, which is the same high water mark he achieved in each of his last two AHL seasons.

According to the AHL roster, Poirier will wear the number 8, also worn by White. And no, there is no relation as far as we know between the Stars' French-Canadian goalie Remi Poirier and their new acquisition.

If Poirier slots into the lineup as your 6/7 guy, you've got essentially:
Taylor-Krys
Bertucci-Kolyachonok
Karow-Looft/Poirier

And perhaps Tommy Bergsland is the odd man out going to Idaho. Texas may also keep around an eighth blue liner (or bleu liner in Poirier's case) given how fragile the D corps' stability has been this year.
