Texas Makes First Cuts to Roster

The Texas Stars announced today that they have made their first round of cuts following the end of the preseason for the club. Some players were cut outright and others were assigned. Many of those who were cut are going to be playing in Allen or Idaho anyways thanks to deals with those teams. Here's the list:

Assigned to Idaho Steelheads (ECHL):
F Michael Neal
F Tristan King

Assigned to Allen Americans (CHL):
F Nick Layton

Released from Training Camp:
D Mike Berube
D Steve Kaunisto
D Matt Case

F Matt Dias
F David Fredriksson
F Matt Tassone
F Patrick Galivan
F Ned Lukacevic
F Chad Klassen

G Billy Sauer

That means that the following tryout players are still in camp with Texas:
F Tyler Arnason
F Rob Bordson
F Spencer Edwards
D Andrew Randazzo

Among those, Edwards and Randazzo are signed with Allen and will likely be assigned there if they do not stick in Texas. Bordson played with Syracuse and Adirondack last year, so I should think he could find an AHL job elsewhere if not in Texas. In my mind, Arnason is the one wild card. He is apparently unsigned elsewhere and is a veteran of 487 NHL games. He will definitely count as a veteran.

  1. King getting sent down is BS, he was one of the top 6 forwards on the ice for me for the past three games. Who's watching these games ?

  2. While King may have been one of the top six forwards on the ice in preseason, most of the roster was still in Dallas. With them back in Texas, he no longer makes the cut.

  3. Even with the guys back I can't see more than 5 forwards that can compete with him skill wise
