The move was made possible by the assignment of Aaron Rome to Texas, which opened a roster spot in Dallas. It certainly hurts Texas to lose the AHL's top scorer, but also helps Texas a bit by removing the veteran rule issues that Rome's assignment presented. With Rome in the lineup on a non-conditioning assignment, he counts against the veteran rule and gave Texas seven veterans (Morin, Sceviour, Petersen, Fortunus, Wathier, Rome, Mueller).
It's obviously great news personally for Morin. It will be interesting to see how Lindy Ruff uses Morin in Dallas.

The Texas Stars, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the Dallas Stars, announced today that Dallas has recalled center Travis Morin from Texas.
Morin, 29, has earned at least one point in each of his first eight contests with Texas this season and leads the entire AHL with 18 points (8 goals, 10 assists). The 6-foot-1, 190-pound forward was the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 20 for posting nine points (4 goals, 5 assists) in four games. The native of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota has appeared in three National Hockey League (NHL) contests, all as a member of the Dallas Stars during the 2010-11 season. Morin was Washington's ninth-round selection (263rd overall) in the 2004 NHL Draft.
I've always wondered how the pay works out when the guys are called up. Is it by game, by week, by practice session? Sometimes they're called up but don't actually play a game. What if they're called up and sent back between games (e.g. during a long break)? Considering that the NHL pay can be as much as 10 times their AHL pay, that could be quite a lot, even for a short time, depending on how the pay cycle works.
