Texas Stars 48-17-3-7, 106 pts #1 Western Conference | v. | Abbotsford Heat 42-25-5-3, 92 pts #5 Western Conference |
April 19th at 7:00 PM
Cedar Park Center, Cedar Park, TX
Just a few months ago, this last game of the season looked like it was going to be a battle of the titans that could potentially decide the West Divison and even the Western Conference. A few lengthy streaks from the Stars, including their current 13 game point streak, and a midstream capitulation by the Heat put a fourteen point gap between the two that gave Texas the division several weeks ago.
The Heat are headed to the playoffs as the fifth seed, likely to play Toronto, Chicago or Grand Rapids in the first round, depending on the outcome of this game and some Midwest Division games tonight. I'm not entirely sure if Abbotsford would be upset with dropping to the six seed and facing Toronto with 94 points instead of either Chicago or defending champs Grand Rapids, who are both guaranteed at least 98 points. Either way, this will be the last regular season game that the Heat will play with the city name 'Abbotsford' on their chest. As previously chronicled, they will leave British Columbia for a city to be determined after this season.
For Texas, the goal in this game is to get out with all the players you came in with. One last tune-up before the playoffs could see Texas rest a few players even to ensure they are ready for next Wednesday. Travis Morin will probably not be among them, as he will need to be on the ice to accept the AHL MVP trophy.
The Stars are recommending that you are in your seat by 7:00 PM to see the trophy presentation ceremony.
