Gameday Preview: Stars v. Oklahoma City Barons

v.Oklahoma City Barons
29-11-3-3, 64 pts
#1 Western Conference
February 8th at 5:00 PM
Cedar Park Center, Cedar Park, TX

The Oklahoma City Barons make their final regular season visit to the Cedar Park Center this afternoon. The peculiar Sunday visit to the CPC is one of only three Sunday home games, the second so far on the season.

Following Thursday's fracas and resulting 5-2 victory over the San Antonio Rampage, Texas Stars coach Derek Laxdal appears to have found a way to motivate his troops: get emotionally involved. At the start of Texas' home stand, David Banfield was really letting the teams play, as it were, and Laxdal didn't like some of the liberties that were taken with his guys. He got fired up; the team got fired up. They've now claimed 10 of 12 points since that game.

If Texas makes the playoffs, tonight's game could be a playoff preview. If that is true, it would be a good matchup for Texas. Despite OKC's top ranking in the conference, the Stars have a 5-2-3-0 record against them. One plus for Texas at the moment is that Iiro Pakarinen is currently on recall to Edmonton. He's the leading scorer in the series with 5-4=9 in 10 GP. Anton Lander, a point-per-game player against Texas, is also in Edmonton.

Stars injury/call up report:
Ritchie, Jokipakka (call up)

  1. Hopefully we can build on the big Thursday night win. Be nice having another win heading into Tuesday's rematch.
