Free agency was certainly a frenzy for Dallas yesterday as the breaking news wire stayed hot with multiple signings by Jim Nill and company. While Day 1 of free agency is usually not a hot day for AHL signings, there were a few deals signed by Dallas that will add to the Texas roster.

First, Dallas signed Andreas Borgman. The Swedish defender is probably most memorable for Cedar Park faithful as a San Antonio Rampage blue liner in their final year in the league. However, he was also part of the Marlies squad that bested Texas in seven games in the Calder Cup Finals in 2018. He only played a minor role on that team though. Borgman adds to the veterancy of this group, having played in Syracuse and Tampa last year as well and holding 135 AHL games and 55 NHL games to his name.

Next, Dallas picked up Alex Petrovic. This defender is another former San Antonio blue liner, perhaps most notable in Texas Stars fans' collective memory for being taken down by Jamie Oleksiak in the 2012 season. Since then, Petrovic has racked up 263 NHL games in addition to his 215 AHL games and spent last year with Stockton in the AHL.

Finally, on an AHL deal today, Texas has announced the signing of Jeremy Gregoire. The winger has six years of pro experience from St John's, Laval, Milwaukee and Tucson totaling 334 games.

With the departure of Cole Schneider back to Milwaukee and Nick Baptiste to Europe, Texas is in need of a captain and a leadership group overall. Look no further than this trio for a set of good captain and alternate captain candidates.
