This week, I am introducing six new writers here at 100 Degree Hockey. I've spread out the introductions across the three days leading up to opening night on Friday. Today, we welcome our next two writers.
First up, Isaac Percastegui. Isaac has already written for the site once, covering one of the games in Traverse City. He is local to Austin and will be covering home and away games as well as select feature work.
My name is Isaac Percastegui, and I love competition. I was first introduced to basketball, then soccer, then football, then lo and behold, I found ice hockey. The Dallas Stars were a hot team while I was still in college; some friends of mine would invite me out to watch the playoffs, which was when I connected hockey with having memorable moments shared among friends and family.
Now, having completed my studies at Texas Christian University with a bachelors degree in Journalism, I am living the dream by being a Staff Writer for 100 Degree Hockey and following the team and competition that hooked me onto the sport in the first place.
Second, Rochelle Zimmerman. Rochelle is also an Austinite and will be covering home games for us here.
I am originally from Round Rock, TX, with roots in Los Angeles, CA, and first fell in love with sports as a Dodgers and Lakers fan. After moving to Austin with my family in 1979, my interest expanded to the myriad sports my new home state had to offer. This passion for sports and recounting games led me to pursue a degree in Communications at Purdue University.
With my degree in hand, I began covering sporting events for my children's local sports organizations and UIL marching band competitions, always ready to argue that marching band is indeed a sport [Ed. Note: It absolutely is.]. My love for hockey ignited three seasons ago when my husband and son used the last of their banked season tickets, leaving me hooked after that first game. Now, as a dedicated season ticket holder for the past two years, I eagerly anticipate another exciting season of watching, and now covering, Texas Stars hockey.
