Remi Poirier Makes 43 Saves as Texas Stars Extend Road Win Streak to 10 Games

Building a long winning streak on the road in the AHL is a tall task for most teams, especially considering how much the Texas Stars sputtered outside the state of Texas to begin the year. Once the calendar flipped to 2025, though, the Stars have done nothing but blaze a trail through their conference rivals. That trail reached 10 straight road games after a 4-3 win over the Iowa Wild to complete a weekend sweep Sunday afternoon at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa.

Looking at the statistics in 2025 one could quickly point to the Stars’ sizzling power play, which is operating at a hair under 40 percent in the new year, as the big reason for Texas’ dominance on the road. Some, though, would ask you to look just a little bit deeper.

“We’ve been consistent in our preparation. We’ve been consistent in our mentality,” Stars head coach Neil Graham told Texas play-by-play announcer John Peterson pre-game. “The on-ice (play) has kept us in a good place. It doesn’t mean we’ve played perfect hockey by any stretch, but we’ve done a good job not compounding errors and picking each other up at the right moments.”

Stars goaltender Remi Poirier did his part in picking up his teammates Sunday afternoon with a 43-save performance in the victory. The stellar work between the pipes was a theme for Texas all weekend as Poirier and Magnus Hellberg combined to make 70 saves off of 75 shots against the Wild.

Iowa wasted no time putting Poirier to the test Sunday as the Wild fired 21 shots on net in the first period and laid siege to the Texas end of the ice. Poirier was forced to make saves off of two breakaway attempts and an odd-man rush, but stood tall for most of the period. The only shot that got past Poirier was a shot that was tipped by Adam Raska at 2:11 of the first period.

Texas replied in turn in the second period, taking the majority of puck possession and pushing play in the Iowa end of the ice. Those efforts paid off at 11:20 of the second period when Justin Hryckowian tipped a blue line shot from Kyle Capobianco on the power play to make it 2-1.

The goal was Hryckowian’s 13th of the season and 34th point of the year to lead all AHL rookies, it also extended his points streak to 10 games.

Cameron Hughes gave Texas the lead just 20 seconds into the third period thanks to an excellent pass from Kole Lind. Matěj Blümel, fresh from his six game stint with the Dallas Stars, scored his 19th goal of the season while Antonio Stranges tallied his 16th goal of the year to put the game just out of reach for the Wild.

The Stars, just three games shy of an AHL record for consecutive road wins, will put their streak on the line against the Milwaukee Admirals Wednesday at 7PM.
