Sometimes a relatively low-scoring game is a nailbiter, and sometimes it's a snooze. Tonight's was more of the latter. Colorado scored early in the contest and locked it up the rest of the way. With a 5-on-3 in the final frame, the game was salted away. A final goal in the last four minutes was inconsequential.
Kiefer Sherwood continued his hot streak, scoring on the ninth shot of the game, all of which came from the sticks of the Eagles. Texas was outshot 11-3 in the first frame and reversed that trend a bit in the second for a 10-5 margin.
The power play was empty for both teams, not that there were a ton of opportunities either way. Adam Scheel got his second professional start and took his second loss, this time stopping 26 of 29 shots. Texas was without the services of Nick Baptiste in the game, breaking up the usual power trio with Riley Damiani and Adam Mascherin.
Kiefer Sherwood scored again on the 5-on-3 power play after Riley Tufte and Derek Barach found themselves confined for 47 seconds. Sherwood has been absurdly productive this year for Colorado; his goals tonight got him to 13 points in just nine games. Dan Renouf scored off a dandy pass from Alexandre Fortin that found the former completely uncovered on the backdoor.
These two teams finish their series tomorrow with an early start time at 4 PM.
