As hyped as many get about the NHL Draft, I am a bit of a draft curmudgeon myself. No one who is drafted this weekend is 'real' in any sense of the word for the Texas Stars organization for several years, if ever. To that point and to set some context for the picks Dallas makes in the coming 48 hours, here is a list of all of the drafted players who played for Texas this year with a calculation of how long it was between when they were drafted and when they played their first full season in the AHL.
We have run this analysis the past several years and the number for Dallas has been trending downward. In 2023, it was 3.0. In 2024, it dipped to 2.6 and this season it moves to 2.5.
When you isolate this to just players who were drafted by Dallas, it drops all the way to 1.9 with a mode of 1. Some players from this weekend's draft could play in Texas in 2026-27 with ATOs starting as early as March 2026.
